Here at LoFi, we’re excited about the launch of our first product, the 1500mg CBD oil. Not only is it an opportunity for us show everyone what we’ve been working on, but more importantly, it’s a chance to make a difference. From the hemp-derived CBD, to the extraction process, to the partners we decided to work with, everything has been done with the intent on reshaping Canada’s CBD industry to the benefit of the consumer.

To celebrate this release, we wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the product, so you know the full story and everything that went into it.

The LoFi Story

A few years ago, some cybersecurity nerds and some old school growers got together and decided that they wanted to build a next generation cultivation facility in the heart of Canada’s cannabis country. Having realized that this was a multi-year journey, we started to look for other ways to participate in the cannabis industry while the facility was being designed and retrofitted.

First, we tried our luck at growing hemp. The regulations were easier to navigate and the cost of producing CBD with hemp was much lower than cannabis. Despite our best efforts, our hemp was… meh. As we learned, growing quality hemp that’s high in CBD and free of contaminants is no small task and something that was better left to the professionals. In response, we started working with the farmers on quality assurance and bringing their crops to market.

This is when our understanding of the CBD market started to really take off. It wasn’t long before we realized there was only a few dollars’ worth of CBD in your average CBD product. Having seen the prices that consumers were paying and the lack of quality products on the market, we saw an opportunity to shake things up. Why not make high-quality CBD products that were super affordable?

For our first product, we wanted to keep things simple. With a simple formulation, we could focus on things like high-quality ingredients, potency, and sustainability. While innovation is an important part of who we are, we don’t feel a need to create complicated products.

How It’s Made

The first step in producing our 1500mg CBD oil is selecting a high-quality hemp flower. In 2021, we sourced our hemp from a group of farmers in Ontario that we had worked with over the last few years. This cultivar was chosen for its high-CBD content and impressive terpene profile. Without question, it was the best material we had seen to date and we were happy to pay a premium for it.

Next, the hemp is shipped to our extraction partner, who uses an alcohol-based extraction process followed by in-line winterization and decarboxylation. The end result is a Full Spectrum (Winterized Crude) CBD extract containing 63% – 67% pure CBD oil. The rest of the extract is made up of supporting cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids.

Once the extract is ready, it’s shipped to our manufacturing partner where our Full Spectrum extract is blended with MCT oil. Once the blended CBD oil is ready, it’s sent out for a final set of lab tests before being bottled, packed, and shipped. While our manufacturing partner manages the packaging line, they do so with our principles of sustainability in mind. Our amber glass bottles are provided by Stoelze Oberglas in Germany, and our cartons come from DCM here in Canada.

Ingredients

Our simple formulation is a blend of two ingredients: a full spectrum CBD extract and a carrier oil. For this edition of our CBD oil, we decided to use a sustainably sourced MCT oil as it tends to have a higher bioavailability for CBD when compared to something like olive oil. We decided against a flavouring agent because we didn’t want to cover anything up. High-quality ingredients and natural flavours are our jam.

Potency

Like the name suggests, the 30ml bottle contains 1500mg of CBD which works out to a potency of 50mg of CBD per 1ml.

TL;DR

Our 1500mg CBD Oil was created with the intent of shaking up the regulated CBD market to the benefit of the consumer. By focusing on high-quality raw materials, thoughtful formulations, and consumer-friendly pricing, we think we’ve created a compelling product for the average user of CBD. Ultimately, we just wanted to create something that y’all would enjoy.
