Product Intro - Nostalgia Craft Hemp
To celebrate the launch of our newest product, we wanted to take a moment to introduce it – why it’s cool, what we’re most excited about, and some really neat insider information. Unlike our last product launch posts, our CBD Oil 1500, CBD Vape 650, and CBD Softgels 1500 we thought we’d go to the source and interview the folks who are responsible for growing and processing the fantastic hemp we’ve released. Not only are we really excited about their work within the industry and what they’re doing, but we’re pumped to have chance to partner with them and create something we’re all really proud of.
This post will be a bit different from the other ones we’ve done. It’ll be a collection of interview questions from Greg over at Terroir Craft Farms (@terroircraftfarms on Instagram), and a bit of product info from Walker, a sales and marketing dude from our team at Woody Nelson.
About Nostalgia
Lofi’s Craft Hemp is a high-CBD hemp flower that’s been hung to dry, hand trimmed, hand packaged, and a minimum 14-day cure. It’s 17.4% CBD and 4% terps, with the top terpenes being B-Mycene, B-Caryophyllene, A-Bisabolol.

For Greg: What exactly is this product and what makes it super neat?
“The product is a dried whole hemp flower, an unadulterated CBD product format we have seen little of in the market thus far. We wanted to connect the consumer to a product in its raw form that showcases the care and quality of the materials responsible for many of the extract category products downstream of this. The cultivar of hemp we chose for this product is called ‘Umpqua’ it’s both rich in cannabinoids and terpenes and performs exceptionally well in our region- The Okanagan Valley.”
Behind the hemp: Our Vision and Process
When we got started with Lofi and product development, we ended up testing out a bunch of different industrial hemp. Unfortunately, none of it was comparable to the great quality, awesome hemp the folks on our team had grown accustom to. Despite wanting to get some great hemp into the market, we didn’t think we’d be able to develop anything we were proud of for a while yet, partially because of hemp growing regulations and legal cultivar limitations.
Everything changed when we started hearing about some really cool people growing hemp in some really cool ways. However, it wasn’t until we saw Greg and his team grow hemp that we considered awesome, really smokeable stuff that we started looking into craft hemp as a more immediate possibility.
Right now, due to the hemp cultivars we can legally grow within Canada, we’re really just scratching the surface of what’s possible when it comes to high quality craft hemp. Given the genetics available, Greg did awesome and we’re incredibly proud of what we were able to produce together – not just because the hemp’s great (in our opinion), but also because of the innovation we’re able to contribute to the industry.
Due to Greg being a cannabis nerd and having such a strong understanding of the plant, we think we found something really special. He’s been super supportive, honest, and transparent, and we’re happy for the chance to celebrate him, his team, and have them recognized as the growers behind Lofi’s best products.
Growing Specifics
For Greg: What does it take to grow good quality hemp in Canada?
“It starts with the soil; Healthy soil is paramount to growing any crop rich in nutrients and desirable compounds, no different for hemp. Secondly, genetic selection; Choosing genetics that perform best given your geographic circumstances and other agronomic variables. Lastly, post-harvest processes will separate the good hemp from the great. In and out of the field the hemp needs to be handled in a way that preserves those delicate and desired compounds. For us, this means doing most things entirely by hand. It’s a small batch model.”
For Greg: What does your growing set up look like?
“Our biggest asset is our soil- It does most of the heavy lifting. We’re fortunate enough to be cultivating in an area rich in agricultural activity and our goal is always to leave the soil better than we found it. The only products that find their way into our soil are natural and beneficial to the biology and health of the soil. Zero pesticides, insecticides, fungicides or herbicides both in the nursery and the field.”
For Greg: What’s the best indicator of a high quality hemp plant?
“For me, the highest quality crops are usually the ones that required the least human intervention until harvest. Provided the soil has been prepped correctly and the right varieties have been selected for the site you’re well on your way to a quality output. The plants have a knack for letting you know when they need something.”
About Terroir Craft Farms
Terroir Craft Farms is located in the Okanagan region. They grow outdoor hemp and prioritize small batch and great quality hemp while prioritizing sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices. If you haven’t already, check them out on Instagram @terroircraftfarms.
For Greg: What was the process of developing this hemp like for you? From the earliest days to the product we’ve launched now, what’s the story there? How did that evolve?
“It’s been an organic process, but certainly not without challenges. I was born and raised in the Okanagan and farming was all around, so general interest and local influence are pretty much the root of it. Myself and my partners started in the medical access ecosystem, and we were farming organic vegetables as well. At the time CBD and nonintoxicating cannabis products were starting to gain more attention by researchers and we decided it was the path most aligned with our values. With Cannabis legalization looming we had envisioned hemp derived products lining the shelves of organic grocers and becoming an integrative piece of people’s wellness routines. We remain optimistic and continue to do our part cultivating the highest quality hemp we can, bringing it to market via amazing partners like LoFi.”
For Greg: Also – how did you get hooked up with Woody Nelson to supply them with hemp?
“Good people generally lead you to more good people. -Shout out to Karen Parent.”
Growing Challenges
For Greg: What are some of the challenges to growing good hemp for consumable products in Canada?
“I think the biggest challenge is having to adhere to both the Industrial Hemp Regulations and the Cannabis Act. Currently cannabinoid rich consumables can only be manufactured and sold under the Cannabis Act. However, as a cultivator we also need to comply the Industrial hemp regulations which stipulate we produce only HC approved varieties of hemp seed from pedigreed sources. As a result, we are subject to a lack of genetic diversity and carry some variability in our fields. This makes it challenging to differentiate ourselves and contend with the cannabis producers. I would like to acknowledge the hard work of our seed providers and the breeders that support us. The industry has come a long way in the past few years and as a result we are able to offer products like this one.”
“Year by year we find ourselves on multiple sites all of which pose unique variables and in turn produce unique hemp. We just try and be stewards of the land and use our past failures to help us overcome seasonal challenges that present themselves. The Okanagan is an amazing place to be cultivating, definitely not limited to hemp.”
TL;DR
As the industry and regulations evolve, we’re really excited to see what kinds of amazing hemp we’re going to be able to grow. For now, however, we’re extremely proud of Greg and his team, our partnership, and the craft hemp we were able to put out together. Hopefully, y’all will enjoy Nostalgia as much as we do.
